Traveler seems to have a frequent crashing bug under modern versions of Windows. This can sometimes be mitigated by putting both the 'olrsvc.exe' and 'traveler.exe' inside the 'apps' folder of your Traveler install to "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" compatibility mode. If you build worlds, it's best to replace sprites with meshes or the sorts.
There is a new version in the works that intends to make Traveler cross-platform (Linux included). For now, you can run it in WINE with decent results in a 32-bit prefix with 'mfc42' installed.
